Meet Tristan Heron

Education Innovation, Educational Technology & Empowering Educators for the Future

If you ask Tristan Heron what drives him, the answer is simple: helping educators feel confident, capable and excited about what is possible.

Whether it is supporting teachers to confidently use educational technology in their classrooms, helping schools embrace innovation, or empowering educators to grow their professional practice and skills — Tristan's work has always centred around one thing: growth.

A fully qualified K–12 teacher, educational technology specialist, workshop presenter, content creator and mentor, Tristan has spent more than 16 years helping young people and educators thrive in a rapidly changing world. His story is one of passion, persistence, innovation and an unwavering belief that education can — and should — evolve.

Today, Tristan works with educators across Australia and beyond through his growing ecosystem of initiatives — including Evolve EdTech, the Empowered Educator Hub, The Staffroom Blog, and the Empowered Educator Podcast. While each initiative serves a different purpose, they are united by one mission: helping educators confidently embrace the future and unlock their full potential.

From Classroom Teacher to Future-Ready Educator

Before becoming a recognised voice in educational technology and educator growth, Tristan was — and still is — a classroom teacher.

Tristan obtained his teaching degree from Charles Sturt University, graduating as a fully qualified K–12 teacher with majors in English and History. Since beginning his teaching career in 2011, he has worked across both primary and secondary settings, teaching students from Kindergarten through to Year 12.

This broad experience has shaped Tristan’s understanding of education at every stage of learning. From helping younger students build foundational skills to supporting senior students as they prepare for life beyond school, Tristan has developed a deep appreciation for the diverse needs of learners and the educators who support them.

Currently based in the regional NSW/Victorian border community of Albury/Wodonga, Tristan works full time as a Year 7–12 English and History teacher. He is currently in his tenth year at his present school and sixteenth year overall in education.

Despite his growing online presence, workshops and educational initiatives, Tristan remains firmly grounded in the realities of the classroom. He understands first-hand the pressures educators face — increasing workloads, changing curriculum demands, evolving technologies and the constant balancing act between doing what is best for students and simply finding enough hours in the day.

It is this lived experience that shapes every workshop, resource, video and professional learning opportunity Tristan creates.

Because for Tristan, professional development should never feel disconnected from the realities of teaching. It should be practical, realistic and immediately useful.

Leadership, Growth & a Commitment to Education

Throughout his career, Tristan has embraced opportunities to lead, collaborate and support school communities beyond his classroom walls.

Over the years, he has held several leadership roles including:

  • Head Teacher English (Relieving)

  • Head Teacher Secondary Studies

  • Year 12 Year Advisor

  • Daily Organisation Coordinator

  • Timetable Coordinator

These experiences have provided Tristan with unique insights into school leadership, curriculum, student wellbeing, staff support and the operational complexities of education.

Alongside formal leadership positions, Tristan has actively contributed to whole-school improvement initiatives and support teams, including:

  • Peer Support

  • Communication & Engagement Team

  • Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

  • Welfare Team

  • Technology Team

  • School improvement initiatives and staff professional learning

For Tristan, education has never been “just a job”. It has always been a profession built on service, relationships and a willingness to contribute beyond what is expected.

A Passion for Educational Technology

Long before educational technology became mainstream, Tristan was already exploring how digital tools could enhance learning.

He recognised early that technology was not simply about replacing traditional teaching methods. When used purposefully, it had the power to transform classrooms, boost engagement, improve accessibility and create learning experiences that were more meaningful, inclusive and future-focused.

As a teacher of English and History, Tristan continually experimented with new tools, digital workflows and creative classroom strategies to make learning more engaging for students while also reducing unnecessary workload for educators.

His philosophy has always been simple:

Educational technology should not feel overwhelming. It should feel empowering.

Rather than chasing trends, Tristan became passionate about helping educators understand the “why” behind educational technology — ensuring that tools served pedagogy, not the other way around.

This passion would soon spark something much bigger.

The Birth of Evolve EdTech

In January 2020, amidst one of Australia’s most devastating bushfire seasons, an idea began to take shape.

The air outside was hazardous, temperatures were soaring and Tristan found himself reflecting on a growing passion: educational technology.

Inspired by international educational innovators including Matt Miller from Ditch That Textbook, Kasey Bell from Shake Up Learning and Kim Mattina from The Suite Talk, Tristan began wondering how he could share his own passion for educational technology with other educators.

And so, The EdTech Teacher was born.

What started as a passion project quickly became something far more meaningful.

When the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically reshaped education later that year, schools and teachers suddenly found themselves navigating remote learning, lockdowns and unfamiliar digital platforms.

Recognising the urgent need for support, Tristan accelerated his plans.

He began creating practical tutorial videos, classroom walkthroughs, infographics and professional learning content designed to help educators navigate digital teaching with greater confidence.

Throughout 2020, The EdTech Teacher grew steadily through:

  • Practical educational technology tutorials

  • Classroom-ready resources

  • Infographics and teaching guides

  • Professional learning opportunities

  • The launch of The EdTech Teacher Podcast

  • A growing online community of educators

Despite the uncertainty of the pandemic, Tristan remained committed to one vision:

Helping educators feel supported, empowered and less overwhelmed by technology.

From The EdTech Teacher to Evolve EdTech

In 2021, Tristan made a bold decision.

The EdTech Teacher underwent a complete rebrand and emerged as Evolve EdTech.

The rebrand was more than a logo change. It represented a broader vision and clearer purpose — supporting educators globally with meaningful, practical and confidence-building educational technology support.

With a fresh identity, updated branding and a growing website, Evolve EdTech expanded to include:

  • Educational technology workshops

  • Professional learning webinars

  • Practical classroom templates

  • Digital teaching resources

  • Video tutorials

  • The Planboard video series

  • Future-focused teaching strategies

  • Guidance around emerging technologies and AI in education

As Evolve EdTech grew, so too did Tristan’s reach.

What began as a side project slowly evolved into one of Australia’s growing voices in practical educational technology professional learning.

In recognition of this work, Evolve EdTech was proudly awarded Leading Teacher EDTECH Training Initiative 2025 through the Corporate Vision Education and Training Awards — a recognition of Tristan’s ongoing commitment to helping educators confidently navigate an increasingly digital future.

A Lifelong Learner First

At the centre of Tristan’s work is a belief that great educators never stop learning.

Throughout his career, Tristan has completed numerous professional learning programs, certifications and training opportunities to strengthen his expertise across educational technology, artificial intelligence, innovation, digital learning and leadership.

A growing collection of professional badges and certifications reflects this ongoing commitment to professional growth and staying informed in an ever-changing educational landscape.

But for Tristan, professional learning is never about collecting credentials.

It is about remaining curious.

It is about continuing to ask better questions.

And most importantly, it is about ensuring the educators he supports receive training informed by current research, classroom realities and practical application.

The Tech-Ready Teacher Academy: Supporting Educators with Confidence

In 2025, Tristan launched his first premium membership community: The Tech-Ready Teacher Academy.

Designed for educators wanting practical, ongoing support with educational technology, the Academy provides a space for teachers to build confidence, explore new tools and learn alongside like-minded educators.

Inside the Academy, educators gain access to:

  • Live professional learning masterclasses

  • Classroom-ready templates and resources

  • Educational technology challenges

  • Practical implementation strategies

  • A supportive educator community

  • On-demand professional learning

The focus remains simple:

Helping educators confidently integrate educational technology into their teaching practice, classrooms and school communities.

The Tristan Heron Brand: A Unified Vision for Educators

By 2026, it became clear that Tristan’s vision had grown beyond individual brands.

Rather than operating multiple disconnected initiatives, Tristan made the decision to bring everything together under one unified identity: Tristan Heron.

A new website.

A fresh visual identity.

New colours.

One connected mission.

The focus, however, remained unchanged:

Helping educators thrive in and beyond the classroom.

Today, the Tristan Heron brand brings together:

  • The Empowered Educator Hub — professional learning, community, and structured growth in one place

  • The Staffroom Blog — practical EdTech ideas and classroom insights

  • Tristan Heron YouTube channel — practical workshops and tutorials to help all educators

This new chapter reflects Tristan's belief that educators deserve support at every stage of their journey — whether they're building EdTech confidence, growing their professional practice, or simply looking for a community that understands what the job is really like.

Looking Towards the Future

For Tristan Heron, the future of education is exciting.

Artificial intelligence, digital innovation, personalised learning and evolving career pathways are reshaping what education looks like — and educators deserve guidance that feels practical, empowering and achievable.

As Tristan continues growing his work, his mission remains clear:

To help educators embrace innovation with confidence, build future-ready skills, and thrive in a profession that is changing faster than ever before.

Because education is changing.

And educators deserve someone in their corner helping them grow with it.
